THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE

Our PGx sample collection kits may be completed in-office or mailed to your patient’s home. Top tips to provide a successful sample:

  • Patients should avoid eating, drinking, and nicotine 30 minutes prior to collection.
  • The sample collection process takes just over 10 minutes.
  • Patients should review and complete the patient consent form either in the kit or the online portal.
  • Both swabs provided in the kit will be used to collect samples from both cheeks in your mouth to send to Tempus in the DNA Sample Collection Envelope.

Our commitment to patient care includes:

  • Transparent billing and assistance with insurance claims.
  • A benefits check on the coverage details of a patient’s provided insurance policy, and outreach to your patient if we expect your patient’s cost to be more than $295 out-of-pocket.
  • A financial assistance program for eligible patients. A simplified application is a part of every patient consent form.

Tempus uses the patient contact information provided at the time of order to communicate with your patient throughout the order journey. Communications may be sent as a combination of emails, texts and phone calls.

Onboarding with Tempus follows three simple steps.

    Hub is an online portal to order Tempus PGx tests, view results, and access tools such as Real World Data.

    Place a PGx test order

    Log into Hub.

    Click on the “Order test” button on the top right-hand corner of the screen, and complete the required fields.

    Complete the required fields.

    The “Order Progress” bar on the left side of the window tracks your form completion.

    • Sections that are successfully completed will be checked in green.
    • Missing information within a section will stay as a gray circle.
    • Incorrect information will be flagged with a red exclamation point with detail next to the field, within the form.

Workflow best practices

The following tips may help to incorporate PGx testing into your practice workflow.

  • Store patient kits in the office. Additional kits may be requested through your Tempus Representative.

  • Display patient brochures provided by Tempus to help educate your patients on what is PGx testing, and what to expect for next steps with Tempus. Brochures are provided through your Tempus Representative.

  • Familiarize yourself with billing and financial assistance options for your patients as outlined in the Patient Billing Guide and Financial Assistance resource.

  • Bookmark the Hub hub.securetempus.com webpage, and be sure to retain your username and password. All practice personnel involved in the workflow should have Hub access. Please reach out to your Tempus representative if additional members need access.

How do I register for a Tempus Hub account?

Contact your Tempus representative or email help@tempus.com to have your online Hub account created. You may also request Hub access on hub.securetempus.com using the “Trouble Logging In” button.

How does the collection process work?

  • Tempus samples can be collected at the clinic using Tempus’ specimen collection kit. Additional kits may be ordered through your Tempus representative.
  • Kits can also be sent directly to the patient’s home, as demonstrated in the “How to Place an Order Instructions” PDF.
  • Tempus collection kits utilize buccal swabs to collect samples for sequencing.

What are the most common reasons Tempus is not able to process a sample for testing in its lab?

  • Patients have consumed food, drinks, or nicotine within 30 minutes of collection.
  • The sample envelope lacks proper labeling.
  • Consent forms are incomplete.

What is the timeline for Tempus to give me my kit, and when do I get results?

  • If a kit is sent to the patient’s home, Tempus typically ships it within 2 days. Kits are also available for collection in the clinic to streamline the process and reduce Turnaround Time (TAT).
  • Once picked up by FedEx, the kit should return to our lab within 1-2 days.
  • Upon receiving the sample in the lab, results will typically be ready within 5-7 days, provided that all necessary consent and billing information is provided.

How do I get the samples shipped back to the lab?

All kits come in a prepaid FedEx envelope, and we offer FedEx pickups both to the clinic and at the patient’s home. FedEx pick-ups can be scheduled at tempus.com/ship/

I have questions about my results. Who can I discuss the results with at Tempus?

Patients should discuss their test results with their healthcare provider. Clinicians can schedule a time to meet virtually with our Medical Affairs team: Tempus Clinical Consult Calendar
